Wandering wolves
Wandering youngsters
Young wolves grow up within a pack. At the age of one they start making tours which can cover distances over 100 kilometers and take several weeks. Around two years of age the animals become adult and leave their elderly pack permanently. They start a search for a suitable mate and a territory of their own. This wandering goes far, distances of 300 kilometers are common within Germany, but longer trails are not unheard of. A recently GPS-colored young German wolf covered a distance of 1000 kilometers, paused a month in East-Poland and currently stays within Belarus. Also Sweden and America report wandering distances of over 1000 kilometers.
