The EW|Saxion Entrepreneur Award
Since 2009, EW Facility Services and Saxion have been organising the EW|Saxion Entrepreneur Award. Eric Wentink, owner of EW Facility Services, is the initiator of this award. He is a former student of Saxion and, according to the Top 50 Saxion spin-offs, the most successful entrepreneur who attended this university of applied sciences.
Eric Wentink started his business in Zutphen in 1990, and soon turned EW into one of the major players on the Dutch market of cleaning companies. EW Facility Services has been in the top ten for years now, and concluded 2015 with a turnover portfolio of 80 million Euros and a workforce of nearly 3,600.
Eric Wentink set up the EW|Saxion Entrepreneur Award in order to encourage and reward entrepreneurship among students. "Because", according to Eric Wentink, "entrepreneurship offers future perspective, for the student and the economy." An important motivator for himself personally to set up his own business was the freedom of being a businessman. The freedom of how you organise your work and who to work with.
Apart from the title "Best Student Entrepreneur of Saxion", the winner of the EW|Saxion Entrepreneur Award also wins prize money of € 5,000 and professional support in the field of running a business.
To Eric Wentink, linking his business to the award from day one was a logical step: "When I started my company EW Facility Services, I had to simultaneously provide for my livelihood. I just had my diploma and nothing else. I know from experience what a challenge it is and what obstacles this entails. When I came in contact with my former school Saxion a few years ago, the idea for an incentive prize for young entrepreneurs was initiated. This way I get a chance to support the start-up process of their own company."
